17:30 – “Piero Piccioni – Pioneer of Timeless Music.” – Forum Studios – Studio A
On the 20th anniversary of his death, the Festival pays tribute to Piero Piccioni, one of the greatest Italian composers of the 20th century (among the founders of Forum Studios), pioneer and prophet of jazz since the 1940s and author of some of the most iconic soundtracks of Italian cinema. Modern, at times avant-garde, he established a fruitful partnership with directors such as Alberto Sordi, Francesco Rosi (no less than 13 of his 17 films), Luchino Visconti, Vittorio De Sica, and Bernardo Bertolucci. The only European jazz musician to have played with Charlie Parker, Piero Piccioni has left an indelible mark on modern music and also on its future, in the countless trip-hop, lo-fi, future jazz, down-tempo productions that international producers increasingly sample. We remember him by meeting the vocalist of so many of his soundtracks, Edda Dell’Orso, and his son Jason Piccioni.
