2017 ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards – Nominees

2017 ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards have been announced this week, awards annually given by ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), and that have been hand-picked by a nominating committee of composers, film/TV industry leaders, and members of the Game Audio Network Guild (an organization of video game music professionals).

 

These awards are divided into the following three categories:

2016 ASCAP Film Score of the Year

Corresponds to films theatrically released in the US in 2016. This category has 6 nominees instead of the usual 5, due to a tie in the nominations:

 

  • Jóhann Jóhannsson – Arrival
  • Matthew Margeson – Eddie the Eagle
  • Hauschka – Lion
  • Lesley Barber – Manchester by the Sea
  • Nicholas Britell – Moonlight
  • Michael Giacchino – Zootopia

 

2016 ASCAP TV Composer of the Year

Corresponds to television programs that initially aired in the US in 2016. This category has 6 nominees instead of the usual 5, due to a tie in the nominations:

 

  • Jeff Cardoni (The Grinder, Silicon Valley, Speechless)
  • Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein (Stranger Things)
  • James S. Levine  (Bloodline, Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles, Royal Pains, Star)
  • Bear McCreary(Agents of SHIELD, Black Sails, Damien, Outlander, The Walking Dead)
  • Dave Porter (Better Call Saul, The Blacklist, Preacher)
  • Didier Lean Rachou (Bering Sea Gold, Deadliest Catch, Food Network Star, Gold Rush, Edge of Alaska)

 

2016 ASCAP Video Game Score of the Year

Corresponds to video games released in the US in 2016. This category has 4 nominees instead of the usual 5, due to the number or eligible nominations.

  • John Robert Matz – Fossil Echo

Voting is open to ASCAP writing members in good standing till next Sunday April 16th, and winners will be announced Tuesday May 16th during the ASCAP Screen Music Awards in Los Angeles.
