Thursday 23/9/2021 – 20:00h – Homenaje a Antón García Abril (Exconvento de Santo Domingo, La Laguna)

The sad news of the death last March of Antón García Abril has meant a great loss. Everyone knows the link that one of the great masters of Spanish music of the twentieth century had with Fimucité, bearing his name the most important award given by the Festival.

Therefore, Fimucité presents in its fifteenth edition, a concert for choir where some of the most important works created by Antón García Abril for the Spanish cinema will be presented, and where for the first time many of the pieces chosen for the occasion can be heard outside the screen.

A unique concert, in a unique setting (Exconvento de Santo Domingo) in which more than 50% of the compositions will contain material unpublished, to date, in concert hall. To this end, the composer, arranger, and orchestrator Jorge Magaz (La mirada de Ouka Lele, Open Windows) has been in charge of arranging all this material for choir, a task as complex as gratifying that will allow the audience to participate in the impressive legacy that Antón García Abril, film musician, has donated to the big and small screen of this country.

Friday 24/9/2021 – 19:30h & Saturday 25/9/2021 – 19:00h – Once Upon… Ennio Morricone: a tribute to his film music (Auditorio de Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife)

Few artists have left an imprint like that of Ennio Morricone (1928-2020). His decisive collaboration with Sergio Leone changed the musical landscape of the Far West forever, and introduced us to one-of-a-kind musical textures that combined the sublime and the bizarre, in a way in which no-one had previously dared. His over 500 soundtracks would come to consolidate the legend and unique musical voice of Ennio Morricone.

During a stunning and busy career, the Italian Maestro succeeded on every level of the musical spectrum: as a film composer and as an absolute creator; as the father of widely known popular tunes and as the author of contemporary experimental music: as a creative partner of iconic directors – Sergio Leone, Brian De Palma, Quentin Tarantino, Elio Petri, Dario Argento, Giuseppe Tornatore – and as the musical soul of little known films that are remembered today, precisely, because of his music.

His legacy includes unforgettable scores such as those for Once Upon a Time in the West, Cinema Paradiso, The Untouchables, Novecento, The Sicilian Clan…

FIMUCITÉ, in cooperation with the European Film Philharmonic Institute, is proud to present this tribute to the film music of Ennio Morricone, which pays homage to the incomparable talent of the Italian Maestro, who created soundtracks both fascinating and timeless.
