MOSMA 2021 – Program and ticket sales

The Movie Score Malaga – MOSMA festival, which will celebrate its 6th edition from September 9th to 12th in Malaga, Spain, has just unveiled its complete program, having tickets already on sale.

 

The event was hosted by the Councilor for Culture, Noelia Losada, together with the manager of Málaga Procultura, Juan Antonio Vigar, and the artistic coordinator of MOSMA, David Doncel.

 

MOSMA 2021 will hold four concerts dedicated to audiovisual music, whose tickets go on sale today at the Cervantes Theater box office and online through Uniticket (www.unientradas.es). Due to the coronavirus pandemic, MOSMA will focus its programming on concerts, all of them with reduced capacity and with all the safety and sanitary protocols required by the regulations.

 

The festival will begin on Thursday, September 9 at 20:00h at the Teatro Cervantes of Malaga (ticket price 20 €) with a concert entitled ‘Mystique and Epic in Film’. Arturo Díez Boscovich will conduct the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, which together with the Coro Ziryab will perform soundtracks of films in which human beings demonstrate their ability to overcome adversity and which have been created by great film composers such as John Williams (The Patriot, Schindler’s List), Ennio Morricone (The Mission), Jerry Goldsmith (Rudy, Mulan), Hans Zimmer (Gladiator) and James Horner (Braveheart), among others.

 

On Friday, September 10 at 20:00h at the Sala Unicaja de Conciertos María Cristina (ticket price 15 €) we will have the Movie Score Málaga Assemblé Orchestra conducted by Isabel Rubio in a concert dedicated to ‘Stories of Women’. There we will enjoy the soundtracks of Promising young woman, composed by Anthony Willis, who received a best OST nomination on the BAFTA 2021 for this work; For Sama, by Nainita Desai, nominated for British Independent Film Awards as best OST; The Queen’s Gambit, by Carlos Rafael Rivera, nominated best OST for Emmy 2021; and Blood, by Paloma Peñarrubia, nominated for the ASECAN Award 2021 for best OST.

 

On Saturday, September 11 at 20:00h we will return to the Teatro Cervantes of Malaga (tickets 20 €) and it will be the turn of the ‘Tribute to the Music of Video games’ by the Movie Score Malaga Assemblé Orchestra conducted by Joan Martorell in a tribute concert in which some mythical pieces ‘reimagined’ by directors and composers will be heard, with: Sergio de la Puente (Entrando en la red – Invasión alienígena – Reimagining Tron & Space Invaders), Javier Bayón (Lucy in the Sky With Videogames – Reimagining Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Pac-Man, Castlevania), Carlos Martín Jara (El lingote – Reimagining Sonic the Hedgehog, The Secret of Monkey Island, Mortal Kombat, Wii theme, Plants vs Zombies), Dani Trujillo (El viaje del bloque – Reimagining Tetris), Ferrando brothers (Virus Attack – Reimagining Resident Evil), Luc Suárez (El club de la lucha – Reimagining Street Fighter 2) & Óscar Senén (Juegos de guerra – Reimagining Gears of War 2). There will also be the world premieres of versions of The Season of the Warlock (Carlos Marín Jara); Reventure (Daniel Parejo); Call of the Sea (Eduardo de la Iglesia); Blasphemous (Carlos Viola); Knack II & Fornite (Anthony Willis).

 

On Sunday, September 12 at 20:00h the concert ‘MOSMA Masters’ will be held at the Teatro Cervantes of Malaga as the grand closing event of this edition, in an evening dedicated to the music of Gustavo Santaolalla, who will receive the MOSMA Maestro 2021 Award. Tickets for this concert will have a single price of 30 €.

Two Oscars, two Baftas, a Golden Globe, 19 Grammys… These are only the most important awards of the multi-instrumentalist Gustavo Santaolalla, leader of Bajofondo, author, producer, and composer; one of the most prolific and recognized Argentinean musicians worldwide, who has produced and internationally promoted the careers of Café Tacuba, Molotov, Juanes or Julieta Venegas, to mention a few artists.

In this concert, with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Málaga conducted by Arturo Díez Boscovich and Juan Luqui (electric guitar), will review Gustavo Santaolalla’s entire career, with a selection of his songs arranged for symphony orchestra and some of his soundtracks. In addition, he will perform a world premiere of some musical pieces from the soundtrack of the video game The Last of Us and its sequel The Last of Us II.

The concert will also include: Suite Iñarritu (Amores perros + Biutiful), the suite Secreto en la montaña, the soundtrack of El libro de la vida, the soundtrack of Diarios de motocicleta, the suite The Last of Us I and II and some songs like The Journey, Ando rodando, Te quiero te espero, No sé qué tienen mis penas and Pa’bailar by Bajofondo.
